The City provides funding to a variety of not-for-profit organizations and individuals for a wide range of programming including: supporting community arts and culture; addressing housing and homelessness issues; championing community building; encouraging economic development initiatives; increasing recreation and social services; and responding to emerging community needs.
Grants and Contributions provide real value for money to the City. They help the City and Council achieve many social, economic, environmental and cultural objectives by leveraging the community-based activities of individuals and not-for-profit organizations.
In 2018, a total of $61.2 million was provided through 44 programs, to 799 organizations and 3,383 private households and individuals. This compares to $58.6 million provided in 2017, through 50 programs, to 739 organizations and 3,108 private households and individuals.
