I’m thrilled to highlight the commendable efforts led by Deb Chapman, the master gardener, in collaboration with the Westboro Community Association and the Volunteer Gardeners of Clare Gardens Park. Their recent undertaking at Golden Manor exemplifies the power of community-driven initiatives to enhance our community.
The connection between Deb and the residents started after the onsite meeting we had at Golden Manor to discuss the new multi-use pathway. Deb joined myself, City Staff, Golden Manor staff, Ottawa Community Housing representatives, and the Westboro BIA for walk-through of the Golden Avenue Intersection and Multi-Use Pathway project, which extends through the property of Golden Manor. Deb met with Golden Manor residents after our meeting on the bike pathway extension.
With the donation of plants from a local developer and the dedicated work of volunteers, the gardens at Golden Manor have been transformed, bringing beauty and vitality to the area. This heartwarming endeavor not only improves the aesthetics of our neighborhoods but also fosters a sense of pride and well-being among residents.
The Westboro Community Association is eager to explore opportunities to replicate this model in other community housing buildings across our city. By engaging community garden volunteers and leveraging partnerships with developers and local organizations, we can continue to enrich our urban landscape and strengthen community bonds.
As one resident states in the interview, maintaining attractive outdoor spaces not only enhances the physical environment but also positively influences behavior and morale.
