On June 13th, the Planning Committee approved the affordable housing investment plan laid out by staff to outline spending and investment for both the City’s $15 million affordable housing fund, and for a recently announced $17.7 million in Provincial-Federal funding. All together, that gives Ottawa $32 million over the next three years to address housing affordability.
The plan would see $28.7 million directed to construction of new affordable units in Wateridge Village, as well as on surplus City lands and lands held by private developers and not-for-profit actors. Just over $2 million would be used to support the Ontario Renovates Program, funding home renovations for accessibility and a portion would be used for repayable short-term loans to help not-for-profit groups acquire affordable rentals.
