Noise from exploding fireworks can be terrifying for both people and pets
Please be respectful and mindful of others if you are thinking about setting off fireworks this long weekend. Although many people enjoy watching the display and sounds they create there are also many who do not, including animals.
No matter its length, a firework display’s sounds can trigger panic in vulnerable populations, as well as wildlife and domestic pets like cats and dogs. Fireworks can be a significant stressor for people living with PTSD, including veterans and survivors and witnesses of gun violence. The loud, unexpected noise can serve as a reminder of traumatic memories. It can also be overwhelming for those with sensory sensitivities, including people with autism.
Please consider the many other ways to safely celebrate and enjoy this long weekend with family and friends while respecting others so that they can do the same.
