Committee approves financial framework for The Ottawa Hospital’s cost share request
The Finance and Economic Development Committee today approved a financial framework and guiding principles for the City’s response to The Ottawa Hospital’s cost share request(link is external). The hospital has asked for a one-time municipal local share contribution of up to $150 million to support its new Civic Campus development.
Staff will report back in the next term of Council with options for a municipal portion of the local share contribution. Many of Ontario’s municipalities have made voluntary contributions of varying sizes to the local cost shares of their community hospitals.
Staff will also bring forward a background study and amending by-law to impose a special area development charge to fund the future increase in need for service required for the hospital’s new Civic Campus.
The Committee also recommended the City purchase 6.6 acres of Shea Road Woods. The investment protects an important urban greenspace, increases Ottawa’s tree canopy cover, and ensures access to high quality, outdoor recreational space for all residents.

Other than the Community Partners Insurance Program, which will rise to Council on Wednesday, May 25, recommendations from today’s meeting will rise to Council at Wednesday, May 11.
