Nightwork Richmond – Cleary – Sir John A Macdonald (SJAM) Parkway
January 4 - December 23

As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, construction activities in the Richmond-Cleary-Sir John A Macdonald (SJAM) Parkway area are increasing. Time sensitive work to relocate a section of a 1200 mm watermain is underway and is expected to be completed in March. In addition, Cut & Cover operations will be ongoing in this section of the Parkway Tunnel. Daytime and overnight work is required to accommodate various operations occurring simultaneously and to minimize project delays.
What
Activities such as drilling of concrete shafts, excavation and backfill with dump trucks, equipment backing-up, and hydrovac operations will be scheduled for daytime hours.
Less impactful activities including servicing heaters and generators, rotary drilling for tiebacks and soil nails, and excavation using trucks (no dumping, no tailgate slamming), will be scheduled for overnight hours.
Hoisting work using cranes, and welding operations will occur during the day and night. As well, generators, pumps and heaters will be operating during the day and night, to support construction.
Traffic lane reductions along Richmond Road will be required to facilitate this work. A detour will be implemented in February 2022 for Richmond Road westbound traffic along Byron Avenue.
When
Work will begin as early as January 4, 2022 and will continue through 2022, subject to a valid Noise By-Law Exemption Permit. 24-hours a day, Monday to Friday. Daytime and nighttime work on weekends may also be required.
Why
To relocate utilities and advance construction of the Parkway Tunnel. Nightwork is required to complete schedule critical construction work on this large and complex project.
Where
SJAM Parkway to Richmond Road, between Rochester Field and Cleary Avenue.
Anticipated Impacts
Noise and vibration from trucks and heavy equipment is expected.
Site lighting is required to maintain safe working conditions for workers. Use of large light plants will be minimized with special attention to ensure lights are directed away from residents, roadways, and businesses.
Light plants, generators, pumps, compressors, and other equipment will be enclosed within Echo barriers, where possible.
Trucks will only use approved haul routes on Richmond, Cleary and the SJAM.
Motorists should adhere to detours, traffic control signage, posted speed limits, use extra caution, and allow for added travel time when moving through active construction corridors as traffic patterns change.
The City of Ottawa thanks residents for their patience as we work to complete these construction activities. If you wish to receive our impact sheet about vibration, please email stage2@ottawa.ca.
The construction work outlined in this notice is subject to change. Work may be delayed or extended due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
