Informal Community Q & A: Carlingwood Shopping Centre Parking Lot Plans
June 15 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Drop by the Hub Community Space at the Carlingwood Shopping Centre to meet with representatives from Anthem Properties, and learn more about the single-story parking lot that will be replacing the recently demolished two-tier parking structure. Review designs, and have your questions answered directly.
Overview of the project:
- The development program proposes to remove the existing above-ground parking structure at the north end of the site and to construct a new at-grade parking lot in its place.
- The new parking lot will connect into the existing drive aisle along the north side of the shopping centre, with site access from Saville Row and Iroquois Road. The impacted portion of the lot includes the northern parking garage of the Carlingwood Shopping Centre along Saville Row, Haymarket Street and Iroquois Road.
- The proposed new surface parking lot has been designed to meet modern best-practices and will include tree planting, full cut-off lighting to reduce lighting spill-over, landscaped islands, stormwater management techniques, and connecting pedestrian pathways throughout.
- The proposal will have the impact of removing 500 parking spaces from the existing condition, resulting in 384 parking spaces for the north parking lot. The Carlingwood Shopping Centre will have a total of 1,641 parking spaces across all parking areas which will continue to adequately service employees and visitors to the site with surplus parking still available.
- The demolition permit for the parking structure has already been issued and demolition of the existing structure is well underway.
- The City’s approval process for the new surface parking lot is also nearing completion and it is expected that work will commence in the coming weeks.
- Given the modest scope of the work proposed, the new parking lot should be up and running by mid to late summer 2026.
- It is important to note that no additional redevelopment plans are contemplated at this time.
