You can’t fix what you don’t understand.
As humanity is faced with unprecedented challenges, “Climate Fresk” is a citizens’ workshop that aims to raise awareness and understanding about climate change, and therefore to encourage positive actions at the personal and collective level.
Conceived in France and based on the science of the IPCC’s 6th Assessment Report (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the workshop lets participants first engage in the discovery of the causes and consequences of climate change and then engage in a creative group discussion of the actions one might take to combat climate change. It gives the opportunity to learn a lot in a short period of time and is meant for both novices and experts. While relatively new to Ottawa, Climate Fresk workshops have been tremendously successful globally. More than 1.8 million people worldwide have participated in the workshop, and over 83 thousand have gone on to become trained facilitators. Fresk workshops have been run in over 157 countries in +50 languages.
In just 3-hours, the workshop calls on participants’ collective and creative intelligence to identify the cause-effect relationships between different components of climate change. This is done so through the placing and organizing of 42 Fresk cards on the table. The Fresk is revealed once all 42 cards have been positioned. The workshop then ends with a substantive and engaging group exploration of the suite of actions that can be taken to combat climate change.
To maximize individual opportunities for engagement, each table will be limited to a maximum of 7 participants and will be assigned a dedicated facilitator.
