Diwali, which for some coincides with harvest and new year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, is worshipped as the bringer of blessings for the new year.
Diwali is observed on the 15th day of the Kartik month as per the Hindu Lunar calendar. This year the festival of Deepavali fell on Thursday, November 4, 2021
The word Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word deepavali, meaning “rows of lighted lamps”. Diwali is a national festival that is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains and some Newar Buddhists. Traditions include many lights and oil lamps being lit on the streets and in houses and people gathering with relatives for feasts. Often fireworks and festivities are a big part of the occasion.
On behalf of my office, I wish you and your loved ones a very Happy bright and prosperous Diwali.
