Our local Lions branch, the Ottawa West & Nepean Lions Club Branch, is hosting a Diabetes Awareness Day on Thursday, November 7, at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 971 Woodroffe Avenue. The program will run from 11 to 4 and include a free lunch for people who sign up beforehand.
We have a lineup of knowledgeable and enthusiastic speakers. Someone who has dealt with diabetes for many years will share the experience. Other speakers will talk about diabetes and memory, diabetes and hearing, and diabetes and feet. Experts will explain how diabetes can affect these things and how people with the condition can care for themselves to minimize problems. Two experts will do initial foot and hearing checks for participants.
There will also be talks on good nutrition for people with diabetes, the use of glucose monitors and testers, and how to apply for a disability tax credit.
You are also invited to register and participate.
