From Ottawa Safety Council:
Ottawa’s Crossing Guards are dedicated, professional and reliable members of our community that care about our children’s safety. Every in-person school day, in neighbourhoods all across the City of Ottawa, OSC Crossing Guards work to ensure students wheel, walk, jog or roll to and from school and their homes safely.
Our Crossing Guards miss being out in the community and hope to see everyone again soon, but in the meantime, why not show a Crossing Guard some love! The Ottawa Safety Council (OSC) is raising awareness about the importance of school zone safety by putting the spotlight on their very deserving Crossing Guards! Nominate your favourite Crossing Guard for an award and colour a thank you card for them…keep reading below for more information on how to thank your community Crossing Guard!
THANK A CROSSING GUARD
Adult Crossing Guards have a very important (and sometimes stressful) job. Students and parents depend on their Crossing Guard to help them cross the road safely all year long, in all kinds of weather and traffic.
We would like to give students, parents, school faculty and the community, in general, the opportunity to recognize the Adult Crossing Guards efforts this past year, despite the fact that the schools are currently closed.
Nominate a favourite Crossing Guard!
Our annual Ottawa’s Favourite Crossing Guard contest is running from April 23rd through May 14th.
The winner receives a $500 cash prize and is awarded the Marie Armstrong Crossing Guard award. We will be holding a virtual appreciation event later in May where the winner will be awarded and the Mayor will make a virtual proclamation for Crossing Guard Appreciation Day in Ottawa.
Here’s how to participate:
- Nominate your Crossing Guard click by visiting: https://www.ottawasafetycouncil.ca/thankyou/
- Click here to download and print a Thank You card. In lieu of actually being able to deliver them to their Guard personally, students can take a picture of their card and email it to info@ottawasafetycouncil.ca. We will ensure these are shared with the Guards.
- Make a short video saying thank you to their crossing guard. These can be sent to info@ottawasafetycouncil.ca or uploaded to Facebook and tag our Ottawa Safety Council Facebook page or on Twitter or Instagram with hashtag #CrossingGuardAppreciationDay.
