This past week we celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) and I enjoyed many of the events that were held to recognize the achievements women and gender diverse persons have made in addition to understanding how much more there is to do to bring true equity to all. As the first ever Liaison on Women and Gender Equity I am proud to see my colleague Councillor Ariel Troster taking on the role going forward with a new and more inclusive title of Liaison for Women and 2SLGBTQ+ Affairs.
My team and I were privileged to be joined on Wednesday evening at our virtual Bay Ward IWD event by special guest panelists Councillor Ariel Troster, Renée Amilcar the General Manager of the City’s Transit Services and local youth leader Alvina Usiwo from the Boys and Girls Club. The evening’s celebration and discussion followed the theme of Embracing Equity. Our event moderator, Sam Laprade from City News, did an amazing job leading the discussion and making everyone feel so welcomed.

Thank you to each these incredible community leaders for all of their dedication and the hard work that they do to lift young girls and women up for success as we move forward and for sharing their thoughts on what it means to embrace equity.
If you were unable to attend the Bay Ward IWD event on March 8th you can go to my YouTube Channel here to learn more about our incredible guests. Thank you to everyone who signed up to participate.
