There were many positives in this year’s budget, you can read the highlights in this week’s issue. However, I decided to vote against it because of my concerns.
I considered a transit fare hike the wrong choice to rebuild ridership after a pandemic. We need to do everything we can to increase transit ridership and Ottawa is already one of the most expensive cities in the country to ride public transit.
I also had concerns that we have not done enough for affordable housing. I appreciate that the city is going in the right direction, but given the cost of housing, fewer and fewer families and many seniors can’t afford a decent place to live. These are major issues for our city as we grow. We need to eliminate homelessness to be a truly great city.
Have a great week,
