With the current reduction in traffic volumes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, contractors have requested that the current work restrictions during peak periods on arterial and major collector roadways be relaxed. The request to relax restrictions has been reviewed by both the Transportation Services and the Planning, Infrastructure and Economic Development Departments who have the delegated authority to do so through the Road Activity By-law (By-law No. 2003-445). Both departments support relaxing the work restrictions as this allows those projects impacting our roadways to be completed in a more timely and efficient manner while low traffic volumes are being experienced in Ottawa.
Moving forward, requests by contractors to permit work during peak periods will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
