The City of Ottawa will soon be conducting a water meter replacement program in your the ward. Neptune
Technology Group has been contracted by the City of Ottawa to replace the water meter at your property. The
replacement procedure requires approximately 30-90 minutes to complete, during which time the water will be
shut off for a brief period. There is no charge for the meter or the installation.
Water meters are the property of the City of Ottawa and have a lifecycle of up to 25 years, after which they
must be replaced. As a condition of service, the City will be replacing these aging water meters in order to
effectively support the delivery of drinking water to households and businesses. Your new water meter will
ensure continued accurate billing and enable enhanced online features through MyServiceOttawa.ca including
the ability to view usage data right down to the litre and sign up for leak and usage alerts.
THE INSTALLATION PROCESS – QUICK AND CONVENIENT
You will receive a notification, by mail, containing information on how to book your appointment within the next
3 months. Appointments can be made to fit your schedule. Neptune will offer 2-hour appointment windows
from 8am to 8pm Monday to Thursday, 8am to 6pm Fridays and 9am to 5pm on Saturdays. When requested,
COVID safety protocols will be followed by the technician. If you are a tenant, please contact the building
owner when you receive this information. Please do no contact Neptune until you receive the notice.
PRIOR TO THE INSTALLATION
Please ensure the area around the existing water meter is clear and accessible and leave ample room for the
technician to work. Your existing shut-off valve should be located where the water service comes into your
house. Check your main water shut-off valve to make sure it is operable.
In Bay Ward, it is estimated that 4,324 small water meters are past their useful life and need to be replaced. Communications are scheduled to start going out to the impacted ward residents starting later this month.
